New Trees and New Brands Coming to Miami Beach

Regardless of where you stand on climate change, Miami Beach is hard at work doing something about it. The city recently launched an initiative that will see its iconic palm trees (a South Florida trademark) swapped out in favor of canopy trees as part of a much broader green infrastructure.

The $5 million project is a component in the reforestation plan that will significantly change Miami Beach’s skyline but has a strong slant toward being friendly to Mother Nature. The city intends to plant well over 4,500 trees within the next decade, creating more canopy in its green spaces as well as its roads and parks. This tree planting is expected to help with cutting down on carbon, better rainwater absorption, and creating shade among streets.

While city leaders admit that the proposal calls for the relocation of more than 900 palm trees, they claim that they have over 20 projects in the works that will relocate the majority of those palms, which means there will be fewer than 200 palm trees lost once the projects are underway.

In other news, it’s a great time to be a Continuum in South Beach resident as Lincoln Road is showing its resilience despite businesses facing difficulties. The Lincoln Road Business Improvement District has been seeing foot traffic uptick and it’s welcoming several new brands looking to further diversify the shopping and dining of the famous roadway.

The health-skewed Pura Vida, artisan doughnut shop The Salty is a pair of new eateries soon to arrive in Lincoln Road. Kush Fine Art, which has locations in states like Hawaii will also join CBD shop Alter Native, Eyes Desire by optometrists Dr. David Roth and Dr. Ashley Roth, and the electric scooter known as Kumpan Electric. Furthermore, Award-winning chef Michael Schwartz will debut his Harry’s Pizzeria, Amazon is launching a store, and the Chinese fashion and lifestyle brand Yoyoso is set to open. Miami Beach will serve as the first U.S. location for Colombian restaurant Andres Carne de Res, a Colombian restaurant with a modern design that combines tasty food with live music, tableside theater, and more.
