An EGOT Winner Comes to Miami Beach
Legally known as John Roger Stephens, you may recognize this singer, actor, and songwriter by his professional name of John Legend. The 39-year-old artist has quickly emerged as a major talent and he recently earned the prestigious EGOT, which means he’s among a small group of people that have earned an Oscar, an Emmy, a Tony, and a Grammy Award. Legend also holds the distinction of being the first black man to earn the four awards.
Legend emerged onto the music scene in 2004 with the release of his debut album Get Lifted, which went platinum and also earned him three Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist. The album featured the bestselling single “Ordinary People”. Legend released four additional studio albums, the most recent being Darkness and Light in 2016.
In 2015, Legend won the Academy Award for Best Original Song along with rapper and actor Common for writing the song “Glory” featured in the 2014 film Selma. In 2017, he won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play as a producer of the play Jitney. The following year, he starred in Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, earning the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie. Legend is married to model and author Christine “Chrissy” Teigen.
John Legend will bring his musical talents to the Fillmore Miami Beach next month on the 17th to promote his upcoming holiday album A Legendary Christmas. See for yourself why he’s one of the brightest—and youngest—talents to win the EGOT.
